About Concussion Injuries

Concussions can occur when there is a forceful trauma to the head, such as a sports injury, or by acceleration forces, such as in a motor vehicle accident. Concussions are characterized by physical, mental and emotional symptoms that can vary from subtle to severe. Often times, symptoms go unnoticed and are not recorded after the injury, which leads to many people going undiagnosed and therefore not receiving the appropriate treatment.

Although research in the area of concussions is improving, there are still a lot of misconceptions surrounding concussions, especially when it comes to young athletes. It is important for all patients to receive a full assessment and ongoing treatment in order to monitor symptoms and ensure the brain is given the time it requires to heal, especially before putting it at risk of a second concussion.
